How did you decide on the location of your honeymoon?
When we first began to think about where we should spend our first weeks as a married couple, the beautiful and exotic islands of French Polynesia were at the top of our list! We knew our wedding would be a once in a lifetime event, so we decided to make our honeymoon a once in a lifetime trip. We booked the tickets, and never looked back! We had an amazing time on our 12-day tour of the islands!

How would you rate your hotel experience and why?
I would rate our experience at all of our resorts as 9/10! We were treated like VIPs at all our resorts. The food, service and cleanliness everywhere was above average and beyond our expectations!

However, the food and drinks were on the expensive side – it was upwards of $20 US per cocktail. Because we were newlyweds we received a lot of gifts and upgrades upon arrival at our resorts which was a nice surprise!

What were your favorite things about your hotel?

  • Le Meridien Tahiti: We loved the sand bottom pool at this hotel! We also liked how it was close to local grocery stores so that we could get snacks for the beach. We felt very safe leaving our resort to explore the local life around us.
  • Hotel Sofitel Moorea la Ora Beach Resort: We loved the huge beachfront this resort had! You could walk for quite always along the quiet shoreline. It also had the best snorkeling of the trip! This resort had performances showcasing different, traditional dance styles every night.
  • Le Meridien Bora Bora: We loved the view of the mountain this resort had, it was one of our favorite parts to photograph on the trip! We did many ocean activities here – paddle boarding and private outrigger canoe rides were all included. We could not get enough of our beautiful overwater bungalow here and the crystal clear water. They had a beach-floored restaurant here, which was a favorite place of ours to eat.

Please list your packing must-haves!
I lived in my Victoria Secret bathing suits and wore sarongs that were given to me as gifts at the hotels. I also brought lots of cute dresses for the evenings. Make sure to bring a light sweater as it can cool down at night and if you have a sunburn it can be a bit chilly.

A camera and a tripod are musts! Sometimes there is no one around to take a picture and it is nice to be able to get lots with both of you in them!

What were your favorite activities from your honeymoon?
There was plenty of relaxing on the beach, but also many activities to do and new areas to explore. We explored the city of Papeete in Tahiti and we hiked Three Coconuts Pass in Moorea and were blown away by the 360-degree view of the island, ocean and jungle below. We also did a Seadoo tour (a must!) around the island of Bora Bora, along with plenty of paddle boarding!

If you are thinking of choosing French Polynesia as your honeymoon destination of choice, you cannot go wrong! We would recommend doing an “island tour” (as we called it), as each island offered a different perspective of the country. The island of Tahiti gave us a taste of local culture, as we went to local markets and ate at food trucks. Moorea offered a new view and more outdoor adventure. Le Meridien Bora Bora resort had a beautiful beach and view of the island of Bora Bora, one of our favorite things to photograph! French Polynesia is a magical place to spend your first days as husband and wife. It is worth every penny and is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
