Today's featured couple, Annie and Jimmy, decided there were just too many stresses and pressures that came with wedding planning in their home state of Florida. How did they solve this issue? They flew down to Saint Lucia for a week to elope.
Black & Hue Photography did such a lovely job capturing the two lovers exploring the island!
What were the top priorities for you in planning your wedding?
After trying to plan a big wedding, our first priority quickly became making our wedding about US, and only us AND avoiding stress! We didn't get far into the wedding planning process before we decided that meant eloping! Our decision to elope made things so easy and stress-free!
Did you have a wedding planner? If so, what was your experience with them?
Not in the traditional sense. The resort we were married at had an in-house planner that handled all of the “business” of getting married before we even arrived on the island. We met with her for about an hour the day before the wedding and tasted cake, picked out a menu, and chose wedding songs.
Throughout your wedding planning did you have a moment when you were a Bummed Bride? If so, how did you overcome it?
Um, yes. What little wedding planning I did definitely bummed me out. It's so stressful and eloping really was more like a vacation where we just happened to get married! I highly recommend it for those brides facing endless roadblocks in their wedding planning.
Did you do a first look? Would you recommend it to future brides?
We didn't but I would have, had it worked out that way. Even though it was just me and my husband at the wedding, I was still a little nervous. Seeing your groom before the ceremony might calm the nerves a bit.
What was your favorite part of wedding planning?
Probably picking out my dress and accessories. It was understated, but still elegant and I think it was perfect for a Caribbean wedding. I bought it right off the rack and it costs me less than $200. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a dress I'd never wear again.
What is your best advice to future brides?
Most importantly, make it fun! And don't forget that its YOUR wedding. Make it about the two of you!
